Military Project and Two Parks

September 11, 2023

Players in the Kern/ UTEP and McKelligon Canyon areas!

The City repainted the lines at Mission Hills Park for two pickleball courts away from the tennis net - YAY! There are no lights at this one tennis court BUT! It has a LOT less tennis traffic than Paul Harvey. Lovely old park - check it out, take your net. It is at 3800 O'Keefe, at the intersection of Stanton and O'Keefe.

Another option: Grandview Park on Jefferson near Alabama. These courts are also newly resurfaced, 4 pb on two tennis courts with night lighting. There is plenty of shade with established trees and two permanent shade structures, the courts are enclosed with fencing on 3 1/2 sides, and when the new gym opens (scheduled for this fall) there will be bathroom access. Take your friends and your net.

Beginners - Looking for Practice Without Pressure?

Galatzan on the westside is experiencing low traffic from 12:30 to 2:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday there are three courts; only one on Wednesday.

Sandy is always looking out for the military -

Our event coordinator, Sandy McDermott, is gathering pickleball equipment for a group of deployed soldiers. She is accepting donations of balls and new or used paddles, and would also appreciate cash donations to defray shipping costs. The deadline is Friday, September 15, when she will ship.

A big thank you to Donna Dourney York, who has donated two nets through her veteran non-profit Hark-ALS, which she founded in honor of her dad, who succumbed to ALS. Diadem is also supporting this project by sending balls plus 12 "military paddles," which have an eagle and flag design on them, in a fatigue colors.

Sandy has cash app and can be reached at 915-252-2100.

Looking for events?

Check our homepage - it is updated regularly with area events. Congratulations to winners from the Senior Games, and the Albuquerque Labor Day and Valle Bajo tournaments. There tend to be several "Candy tournaments" as gyms look for donations for Halloween events, so keep an eye on our homepage. If you know of an event that we do not have listed please send the flyer to pickleballep@gmail.com and I will add it.

Play happy,

Jamie Fisher
