Police Games Pickleball Is a Winner!
Ben and Terry Avalos' organization and advanced work made this event a success! A shout out to all of our volunteers: Sandy McDermott, Kelly Groves, Susan Wiggs Patty Morrow,
Dina Chen and Ruben Pena. According to Terry, "Players from out-of-town were very happy and complimentary. I think they will have fond memories of El Paso Pickleball."
This is a big feather in the hat of tourism in El Paso. Congratulations to Beau Bagley, El Paso Sports Commission; this was the first time in 40 years that this event had been held in El Paso, and there were 1,200 entries.
Another Facility is Born - Ascarate Futsal/Pickleball Multi-Use
Congratulations to El Paso County on the unveiling of another upgrade to Ascarate! These courts will be open for use except when there is an event that reserves the Special Event Area, like the carnival they had a few months ago.
The good thing about these courts is
you have a larger out-of-bounds and fences to keep other balls off your court (the balls do roll under in a few places - bring extras.) We will see what competition we get from the futsal kids for court time.
When you enter the park, keep the lake on your right and the courts will be on the left, about 1/4 mile from the entrance.
Clinics, Clinics Everywhere
The Avalos team (Ben and Terry) has been holding clinics at the Women's Club of El Paso.
Sandy, Ben, and a host of volunteers will be holding a Clinic for 28 Wounded Warrior Veterans between the ages of 20 and 50 at Chamizal outdoor on Saturday, July 15. Just a few of the services our busy volunteers provide.
Ben's next First Friday of the Month Beginner's Clinics is scheduled for August 5 at Nolan Richardson. If the rec center is not ready to open he will probably relocate to Chamizal again. If you are interested please watch Facebook for any last minute venue changes, contact a board member or send an email to the club. Nolan is tentatively scheduled to open July 19 after a lengthy renovation project.

Thank you Dina for the update. This is the main gym only; the Aux gym also has PB every time the main does (for a total of three courts) plus all afternoon on Wednesdays.

UTEP Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

Pickleball will be a new club beginning in the Fall, 2023 Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). The UTEP Extended University Pickleball Club will meet twice per week at the Auxiliary Gym attached to Memorial Gym. Three courts will be available for open play and lessons will be available for beginners! Dates and times will be announced in the Fall Catalog coming to your mailbox soon.
